A new species of molly has been described from Guatemala.

The new fish was discovered in the Rio Cahabon, around 11 km south of Lanquin in Alta Verapaz, Guatemala, and has just been described as Poecilia rositae by Meyer, Schneider, Radda, Wilde and Schartl in the German journal Zoologische Abhandlungen.

The new fish is a member of the Poecilia (Mollienesia) mexicanus group.

The authors say that P. rositae is clearly distinguished from other members of the species group by its colouration and the shape of its body and gonopodium.
