West African cichlid expert Dr Anton Lamboj has described a new species of dwarf cichlid from northeast Congo and southeast Gabon.

The new species, which has been named Nanochromis sabinae in the latest issue of the systematics journal Zootaxa, differs from other members of the genus by a number of different morphological features, as well as a different colour pattern.

The new cichlid has been named after Dr Lamboj's daughter, Sabina Lamboj.

For more details on the new fish see the paper: Lamboj, A. (2005) - Nanochromis sabinae, a new cichlid species (Teleostei: Cichlidae) from the Upper Congo River area and Northeast Gabon. Zootaxa, 827: 1-11.
