We can all do our bit to limit the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic such as self-isolate, improve our hygiene practices and socially distance ourselves. One organisation taking this a step further in order to help others during these challenging times is aquatics firm Prodibio.

Prodibio are best known for producing high quality additives for ponds and aquaria. Reminiscent of action taken by factories adapting to produce WWII supplies, Prodibio are now using their facilities to produce hand sanitiser supplies for nursing staff on the front line in Marseille, France, where the company is based.

From Monday 23rd March, the Prodibio factory started producing and packaging a hand sanitising solution in accordance to a formula approved by the World Health Organisation.

The mix of ethanol, hydrogen peroxide, glycerol and sterile water include some ingredients which are already used in Prodibio products.

There is no financial incentive for the company and no support from the French government. The cost will be absorbed by the aquatics brand, and so this is purely out of the goodness of their hearts.

Although production may be limited by the supply of raw materials, this is a helpful and very thoughtful move which sets a strong example to the rest of the world.

Well done Prodibio, you’re a credit to the aquatics industry and hobby!
