Are there any starfish that are relatively easy to keep? Expert Jeremy advises...

Q) My reef tank is approximately 250 l and contains hard and soft corals and a few small reef safe fish, hermits and a cleaner shrimp. What is the best way to feed a starfish?

A) Jeremy advises: The only starfish that’s easy to keep is the Sand sifting starfish, Archaster typicus, and they’re actually recommended as clean-up crew in larger reef tanks with sand beds. Add one to a tank of your size and it will dig into the sand, feeding itself on food morsels and won’t need any additional food. It is plain in colour but really is the only species you’ll have success with long term. The more mature the sand bed, the better.
