An elderly woman has drowned while feeding fish at a local pond.
84-year-old Alva Waldie was found face down in the pond at Jackson Heights in Queens, New York City, and numerous attempts to revive her by family, neighbours and emergency officials failed.
The fatal fall happened on Thursday evening when she went to feed the fish at the nearby pond, which she did regularly.
A family member found Waldie at around 5.50 pm and with the help of a neighbour, began to perform CPR on her until emergency crews arrived.
Waldie was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.
