A carousel featuring giant, brightly coloured fish is opening at a New York park in August.

The SeaGlass carousel is part of a revitalisation plan at Battery Park, a 25-acre waterfront park located in Lower Manhattan.

The non-profit Battery Conservancy says the carousel, which is shaped like a giant nautilus shell, has been designed to recall the park's history as the original home of the New York Aquarium.

The ride features 30 fish, which visitors will sit inside, and it is scheduled to open on August 20, 2015.

The park receives around six million visitors a year.
