Staff at a UK public aquarium have had to lower the water level of their display tank after a seasonal diet of sprouts led to the turtle inhabitants breaking wind and setting off overflow alarms.

Staff at the Great Yarmouth Sea Life Centre fed them as a festive treat, but the vegetable had the same effect on the chelonians as it does on humans.

The gassy bubbles produced hit the tank’s overflow sensors and triggered the alarms.

Staff have now had to drain thousands of litres of water to prevent further flatulence setting off the system.
