A shark has died after the truck transporting it was in involved in an accident.

The Sandbar shark was one of four that were on their way from Marathon, Florida, to an aquarium in New York, when the truck blew a tyre and ran off the road.

The vehicle remained upright but one of the four tanks in the back was damaged, resulting in the death of the shark inside.

The remaining sharks — all 5ft or more in length — were unharmed and have been taken to SeaWorld in Orlando until further plans can be made to transport them to New York.

The driver of the truck and and his passengers were unhurt.
