Scientists from the Monterey Bay Aquarium have captured a juvenile Great white shark and have spent the past few days studying the behaviour of the fish in an enormous offshore pen.

Little is known about the biology of Great whites and aquarium successes with the species have been extremely poor.

The shark, which measures around 150cm/5' and is thought to be around one-year old, was caught by a fisherman in a gill net, who called the aquarium when he captured the fish.

The aquarium does not intend to introduce the shark to captivity. The fish will be released next week.
