After months of hard work, Tri-Mar Aquatics has opened its new shop in Pool, Cornwall.
The multiple PFK award winning fishkeeping institution had been at its previous premises in nearby Tuckingmill since 1966, however redevelopment plans at the old site meant a move to pastures new was necessary, a challenge that owner Monty Ray and his dedicated team took up with aplomb.
The new Tri-Mar boasts over 2,200 square feet of shop floor that contains 85 tropical, 23 coldwater and 31 marine tanks, ranging in size from 14-30 gal, as well as four 39 x 39" coral trays, all supported by onsite quarantine facilities.
There is also a dedicated reptile and amphibian room.
Where the old shop was often a cramped, difficult to navigate place spread over two floors, the sales areas of the new shop are light, airy and all on one level, allowing easy access to all. This allows Tri-Mar to stock a far greater range of dry goods than previously, as well as providing twice as much water for the fish. All this extra capacity also comes with the bonus of a large flat car park, something not available at the old shop!
Just over two weeks after opening, owner Monty Ray said that customer reaction to the new shop had been: "absolutely 100% enthusiastic" and despite some initial reservations about the move there was nothing he missed about the old shop.
Asked what he puts Tri-Mar's continued success down to, Monty said: "We are all enthusiastic, and it’s all about the fish and animals. The staff are longstanding, knowledgeable and we are all keen on the rare stuff, so with our mail order distribution we can buy all the stock that we fancy because we have outlets for them. Prices are always very competitive and we keep a lot of everything."
