Thousands of manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers from more than 50 countries are attending the 31st bi-annual Interzoo trade show in Nuremburg, Germany.

Practical Fishkeeping and Pet Product Marketing magazines are reporting live from the event this week to give you the low-down on the new products you're likely to see on sale in the shops over the next year.

Interzoo dwarfs the UK's largest trade show, Glee, by a considerable margin and is used as the launchpad by most manufacturers to get their new products seen by as many traders as possible.

This year's event will cover a huge 90,000 square metre area - 1000 square metres bigger than 2008 - and is due to be attended by over 37,000 trade visitors from 114 countries.

Inside knowledge on product launches suggests interesting new equipment from Reef One (including a new biOrb) and from Hagen, who are due to launch several new aquatic product lines, but it remains to be seen whether the economic downturn has limited the number of companies investing in research and development since the 2008 event.

Interzoo Exhibition Committee chairman Hans-Jochen Bungener says that he has high hopes despite the economic crisis: "The international pet industry is counting on the pet supplies market developing positively, because experience shows that pet owners set other priorities than consumers without pets. Pet owners still expect reliable products for their pets, even in difficult economic times.

"The manufacturers of pet supplies respond to this existing and still growing sense of responsibility by continuously improving and expanding their product ranges. And Interzoo offers the ideal setting for launching these new products worldwide."

Interzoo takes place from 13-16 May 2010.
