Interzoo, the world's largest pet supplies exhibition opens in Nurnberg, Germany, this week.

The exhibition, which is held every two years, is now in its 30th year and sees around 1400 trade exhibitors attending from over 50 countries.

Over 34,000 buyers who work in the pet and aquatics industries are expected to attend this year's exhibition, which will see the launch of a number of new aquarium products.

Interzoo is not open to the public and many of the products on display are being shown for the first time, months before they go on sale.

Most of the products likely to be imported into the UK aquarium trade usually see their official UK launch at the GLEE trade show, which takes place at the NEC from 21-23 September 2008.

Practical Fishkeeping is reporting live from Interzoo this week and will be covering some of the event's hottest launches.

Deputy editor Jeremy Gay, who attended Interzoo in 2006, told Practical Fishkeeping: Interzoo, is a vast pet trade show, and many UK aquatics companies visit either to source new products or to sell their own products to a global market.

"Interzoo is the place to see major aquatics launches and we are still seeing products come to the UK market that were first launched in May 2006.

"It is at Interzoo that we will see what will be big in aquatics over the next two years, and which way the UK aquatics market is likely to go. It is certainly an exciting time for the industry.

Interzoo 2008 is due to be the biggest ever, and trade stands will cover an area of 89,000 square metres - the size of 12 football pitches.

Interzoo takes place from 22-25 May 2008.
