This weird, transparent fish with eyes lacking any pigment was a remarkable find during an expedition by the NOAA Ship Okeanos Explorer.

It was discovered at a depth of 2,500m during an exploration of the Marianas Trench Marine National Monument.

The 10cm/4in long fish is a member of the family Aphyonidae — and according to experts from NOAA this is the first time that any member of this family has been seen alive.
