A beauty contest for goldfish has been held in Fuzhou in China, with over 3,000 fish battling for the title of World Goldfish Queen.

The 1st International Goldfish Championships saw entries from 14 countries. Other categories included the longest and heaviest goldfish.

"We judge goldfish mainly by five criteria: breed, body shape, swimming gesture, colour, which is very important, and overall impression," said Ye Qichang, a member of the judging panel.

Judges were particularly impressed with a giant 1.75kg (3lb 5oz) specimen.

"I have raised goldfish for some 40 or 50 years, and it is the first time I've seen such a big creature," said Mr Qichang.
