The state of California has refused to allow the sale of glowing genetically modified danios citing ethical concerns, but other states may allow the sale of the fish very soon.

A Texan company wanted to market the transgenic danios as GloFish, and has hyped them up to the popular media as the first GM pets.

We think the first GM pets were actually the Taikong Corporation's TK1 danios, which PFK reported back in July.

In the UK, the Ornamental Aquatic Trade Association (OATA) has recently issued a statement to its members concerning the sale of the GM fish over here.
