The ban on exports of certain cyprinid fishes from Singapore has been lifted, Defra has announced.
A voluntary prohibition notice was created in May after spot checks revealed that health measures in Singapore did not meet EC requirements.
Defra said: "This prohibition was the result of an inspection by the EC Food and Veterinary Office (FVO) to examine the aquatic health controls in that territory, which revealed a number of shortcomings in the requirements for trade in live aquatic animals.
"The Singapore Authorities have satisfied the FVO that appropriate procedures are now in place and the prohibition has been lifted with immediate effect."
Anyone importing coldwater fishes, such as goldfish and Koi, into the EU must now use the new animal health certificates which were released on August 1 2010.
