Police in Scotland have withdrawn an appeal for information on the theft of 40 Koi from a pond in The Heck, Lockerbie.

The fish had been disappearing over the course of a month, and with the total value of the Koi stolen estimated at around £2000, the distraught owner had called in Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary to investigate the thefts.

However, after carefu examination of the scene, a wildlife crime officer decided that the culprit was an animal, probably an otter.

"As such, no crime has been committed," said a police spokesman.
