An attempted armed robbery at an aquatic shop in Grimsby was foiled after the suspect was tackled by staff.
A man entered Victor Aquatics on Victor Street at around 5.15pm on Monday, February 15, with what is thought to have been a BB gun hidden in a carrier bag. He threatened to shoot if his demands for staff to hand over cash from the till weren’t met.
The man was tackled by joint owner of the store, Dan Hambling, along with another member of staff and a customer who was in the shop at the time. Two members of staff were assaulted by the suspect during the incident.
Police were called and a 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, assault causing Actual Bodily Harm and attempted armed robbery.
Daniel McKiernan, 19, of no fixed abode appeared at Grimsby Magistrates’ Court on February 17 to face charges of attempted robbery and assault of Laura Fowler and Daniel Hambling at Victor Aquatics, Victor Street, Grimsby, reports the
. McKiernan was also charged with possession of an imitation firearm. Prosecutor, Rebecca Dolby said a BB gun was seized from the scene.
McKiernan has been remanded in custody until his appearance at Grimsby Crown Court on March 21.
