Watery delights at Lambeth charity’s summer open day on Saturday 10th June 2023, 11am – 4pm.

Roots and Shoots summer open days are a much-loved annual event to which local Lambeth people flock and many others travel to specially from further afield.  Celebrating the watery delights of nature, Roots and Shoots Makes a Splash! Open Day takes place on Saturday 10th June 2023.

There’s pond dipping in the Wild Garden, a planted aquarium gallery, aquarium-building demonstrations, floristry and art workshops, children’s storytelling, face painting, and a magical mechanical dragon. Stalls are selling arts, crafts, accessories, jewellery, ceramics and plants, as well as homemade cakes, delicious vegan food and candy floss.

Fascinating talks in the Main Hall include The Wonder of Frogs from Kim Le Breuilly of the British Herpetological Society, Project Coral from the Aquarists at the Horniman Aquarium, an aquarium setup demonstration from famed aquascaping youtuber George Farmer, and a naturalistic aquarium biotope setup demonstration from ZSL London Zoo-trained Tai Streitman.

Says Roots and Shoots director and founder Linda Phillips MBE, “We’re so pleased to invite the community back to Roots and Shoots once again! Our froggie days have always been one of our most popular events, so we’re delighted to bring them back bigger than ever, and highlight the enchanting lives of aquatic life.”

Roots and Shoots has been at the heart of Lambeth life for more than 40 years, providing vocational training for young people from the inner city and environmental education for the wider community. Its award-winning gardens and green spaces are a haven of biodiversity.
