Shark rescued from Cornish estuary

A shark, which had become trapped in an estuary in Cornwall has been rescued and released.

The 180cm/6' Blue shark, which had a rusty hook embedded in its dorsal fin, had swum into shallow water near Helston, where it had been seen thrashing about and in obvious distress.

Three boat hands from a nearby boat hire company went to its aid, and managed to removed the hook before guiding the shark back out to sea using their boat, after which it swam off.
