A range of power filters, sold exclusively by the pet store chain PetSmart, is being recalled by the manufacturer.

United Pet Group is recalling around 158,000 of its Top Fin power filters over concerns that a conductor on the pump motor can become exposed and electrify the aquarium water, posing a shock hazard.

The recall involves the 10, 20, 30, 40, and 75 models of the filters, sold exclusively at PetSmart in stores and also online from September through to December last year. The filters were sold both individually and also as part of the Top Fin 5.5 and 10 gallon LED aquarium kits.

There are no reports so far of anyone being hurt, but consumers are being advised to stop using the recalled filters with immediate effect and contact United Pet Group for a free replacement.
