A teenager from Colorado has been left with a cracked skull and is also facing criminal charges following a stunt in which he jumped into an aquarium at a retail store.

The huge 100,000 gal aquarium, which is stocked with native fish, is situated at the Bass Pro Shop in Denver — a chain of stores which specialises in hunting, fishing, camping and other outdoor gear. The unidentified teenager leapt from a 30-foot ledge into the water on Saturday, reportedly cracking his head on the rocks inside the tank. He was being filmed by friends at the time.

Diving into the Bass Pro Shop aquariums has become something of a social media sensation, with people being encouraged to upload videos of themselves jumping into the water.

A spokesperson for Bass Pro Shops says the company plans to prosecute the teenager — who is reported to have been hospitalised following the incident — to the full extent of the law.

The fish in the tank, which include rainbow trout, large and small mouth bass, sturgeon, and blue gills were unharmed in the incident.
