Three men were injured when a breaching whale landed on their boat on Monday evening.

The whale capsized their inflatable boat and threw the men on board it into the water, off Port Elizabeth in South Africa.

They managed to get back to the boat and were later rescued by the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI). The men were taken to hospital, one of them in a serious but stable condition.

The boat also sustained extensive damage.

According to an NSRI spokesman, the three men had no idea what kind of whale it was, just that it was 'big'.

A pod of Humpbacks has recently been spotted in the area.
