This strange creature was captured on film by an ROV in the depths of the ocean?

This video was filmed at a depth of 1500m/5000', and shows what appears to be a strange floating mass. But what is it — and is it living?

At the moment there appear to be two schools of thought. One is that it's a rare deep sea jellyfish called Deepstaria enigmatica.

The other is that it's actually whale placenta.
