Red Sea launches advanced new salt formulas

Well known salt and equipment manufacturer Red Sea have reformulated and repackaged their popular marine salts.

The range will be made up of two different salts, designed for different reefkeeping objectives:

Red Sea Salt is designed to provide the exact parameters of water on a tropical reef with a slightly elevated alkalinity as needed in a closed marine system. Red Sea salt is ideal for fish and invertebrate systems, mature or low-nutrient SPS tanks

Coral Pro Salt is designed to provide the biologically balanced, elevated levels of the foundation elements (Calcium, Magnesium and Carbonates) necessary for sustainable, accelerated growth and enhanced vitality of all corals. Coral Pro salt is ideal for reef aquariums, in particular for LPS and SPS corals and growing out coral frags.

"Our research into the physiological demands of corals in the reef aquarium has clearly shown that a specific ratio between the foundation elements Calcium, Magnesium and Carbonates creates an optimal ionic balance, making all biological processes such as growth and coloration much more energy efficient," said Sharon Ram, Chief Scientist of Red Sea.

"Maintaining the balanced ratio will ensure long term health and vitality of any artificial reef.

"Red Sea’s salt formulas use Sodium Chloride that is naturally harvested from the Red Sea, with 45 seawater elements captured inside every crystal. This provides the "living reef inside every harvested grain".

"The element enriched sodium chloride which comprises over 72% of Red Sea’s salts is mixed with all of the other elements of seawater resulting in exceptional quality and homogeneity of finished product that is almost unachievable artificially".

Both salt mixes are nitrate and phosphate free, and do not contain chemical binders or toxic levels of heavy metals.

RRPs are £12.99 - £74.99 for the Red Sea Salt, coming in 2, 4, 10 and 22kg sizes, and £33.99- £89.99 for the Coral Pro Salt in 7 and 22kg sizes.
