A new species of Rasbora has been discovered in Malaysia.

The fish, which has just been named Rasbora notura by Maurice Kottelat in a paper in the journal Ichthyological Exploration of Freshwaters, has previously been confused with Rasbora bunguranensis.

R. notura has quite distinctive colouration, with a black stripe running from the start of the dorsal fin to the caudal fin base and a large diamond shaped mark on the caudal peduncle.

The type specimens, which measured up to 5.5cm/2", were collected at the Sekayu Waterfalls in Terengganu, Malaysia.
