John Allan Aquariums, a long-established supplier of aquariums and shopfittings, has embarked on an ambitious expansion programme with the launch of John Allan Fish.

In association with David Williams, formerly of Colchester Aquatics, the company is expanding into marines and will be stocking a wide selection of marine fish, corals and invertebrates.

They will also stock the full range of TMC and Deltec dry goods at their Bury St Edmunds base. John Allan already sell wholesale tropical and freshwater fish " they have approximately 300 fully stocked coldwater and tropical aquariums.

The decision to advance into livestock will enable the company to effectively become a cash and carry while demonstrating their aquatic units in a working environment.

Pet Product Marketing editor Sandra Pearce officially opened the marine fish-house in early July, and said: It was a real privilege and honour to be invited to open the facility. John Allan are building a firm reputation with their tropical and freshwater fish, and it won t be long before their marines become a main draw for retailers in the region. You know when you deal with John Allan you re getting high-quality fish and products followed by top-level customer service, all backed up by strong family values.

Work on the 540sq ft marine fish-house was nearing completion at the time we went to press, with the installation of an impressive range of newly designed John Allan marine units, which allow greater flexibility than ever before. Doors are expected to open sometime this month!

Williams said: We plan to expand and supplement our existing dry goods range to include all relevant equipment, not just for marines, but for tropical and freshwater fish too. We visit our suppliers regularly to select and maintain a very high quality of fish. Our dedication in stocking only the best is reflected in our sales, which have grown steadily since our launch three years ago.

The company was founded in 1963 by John and Allan Riley making angle iron aquariums and hoods in a garage and garden shed. In July 1966, they met two Germans who were developing an aquarium with an aluminium frame " the Juwel aquarium. The rest, as they say, is history.

Added Williams: It s a great move forward for us to be able to offer a complete refit or new installation along with a full and continued back up supply of dry goods and livestock. We have a great many loyal, knowledgeable and long-serving staff. We feel ready and very able to make these progressive changes.
