For those in the fish-exhibiting know, the last Open Show that really matters occurs on September 15 when Hounslow and District Aquarists Society stages its annual show, reports Dick Mills.

Coming as it does in mid-September, the show offers the last chance for exhibitors to qualify for the Supreme Championship Competition, the British Open Championship and the Diamond Class Final at this year’s Festival of Fishkeeping at Sand Bay, Weston-super-mare at the end of October.

The two Championship qualifying Classes are Class E (Labyrinthfish) and Class O a-q (Male Guppies). The self-nominated Diamond Class is Class K (Danios).

The Best Fish in Show winner will qualify for the British Open Championship and all the winning entries in the Pairs and Breeders Classes will qualify for the Supreme Pairs and Supreme Breeders finals also at the Festival.

Hounslow Society is especially pleased to be staging its show at its old favourite venue, the Youth Centre in Kingsley Road, Hounslow.

Handy for the local 'retail therapy' for non-fishkeeping partners, it is also in easy reach of notable aquatic dealers in the area. Of course, if you don’t want to venture too far at all, there’s always our well-stocked refreshment area to take up your spare time!

For full details of the show, you can read (or even download) the Show Schedule from the Hounslow Club’s website or from the Federation of British Aquatic Societies’ website.
