Great weekend for catfish fans!

The Catfish Study Group's 2016 convention is being held from March 11-13, 2016.

The venue will be the same as last year: The Kilhey Court Hotel, Chorley Road, Standish, Wigan, Lancs, WN1 2XN.

The 2016 convention promises to be yet another great event with a very full speaker line up, comprising three first time speakers: Dr Roberto E Reis (pictured above), Doctor in Zoology from the University of São Paulo, Brazil, who will be giving two talks: 'Recent and exciting discoveries in Loricariid systematics', and 'South American catfishes: how many we know and how many we don't'.

Daniel Konn-Vetterlein a Loricariid enthusiast and President of the BSSW group from Germany. His talk will be 'Knifefish for breakfast and Pims for dinner — fishing in Bolivia'.

Benny Hubel Hansen is an expert Corydoras breeder from Denmark, whose talk will be 'Breeding Corydoras and Scleromystax'.

Accompanying these will see a return of Eric Bodrock, and his partner Regina Spotti who are both top fish breeders from Pittsburgh, USA. Eric specialises in breeding catfishes, and will be speaking on '40 Years of Catfish Breeding”, while Regina specialises in breeding fish but does have a particular interest in killifish, and will be giving the non-catfish talk 'Killifish — not just for bait any more!'.

By way of a change, the 2016 Friday evening's CSG member presentation will be in the form of four short, 15–20 minute talks given by group members.

There will be the usual giant raffles on each of the two days as well as a major sponsor weekend draw. To show the CSG's appreciation to all the delegates, there will be a free to enter Saturday and Sunday door prize draws as well as the non aquatic prize draws at the Saturday and Sunday evening dinners, and all delegates will receive a "goody bag" of sponsor donated products.

There will be a breeders' award programme display, trade stands, specialist societies and sales tanks set-up over the weekend.

Bookings can be made for the whole event from Friday evening through Sunday or if you only have one of the days available a day ticket can also be purchased.

Hotel rooms along with tickets and convention merchandise should be booked/ordered through the convention manager at: [email protected]
