Festival of Fishkeeping results
The Federation of British Aquarist Societies has just released the results of the shows held at last month's Festival of Fishkeeping and Water Gardening.
The event, which took place at Hayling Island in Hampshire, on 7-8 October, saw a record number of visitors. The FBAS estimates that around 5000 people attended over the weekend, with fishkeepers travelling to the Festival from across the UK.
Allan Finnigan took the British Open with his "L128" loricariid, Keith Sollitt took Best in Show for his Betta fusca, Don Smith won in the Goldfish Society of Great Britain show for his magnificent London Shubunkin, while the UK Discus Association event was dominated by Mark Evenden and Chris Arnold's fish.
Evenden won the Discus Open, as well as taking second and sixth places in the Supreme Winner category, while Arnold took first and second in the Hobbyist category, second in the Open and first and fifth in the Supreme Winner section.
Alan Archer's size six Kohaku dominated the Laguna Koi Festival, winning in no less than three of the seven categories.
Dick Mills of the FBAS said: "Allan Finnigan and the Leicester boys made sure of their British Open Championship on Saturday but it was a different story without them on Sunday, when Port Talbot's John Egan almost swept the board in the Supreme Championship, with only John Smith from Mid Sussex Aquarist Society preventing a clean sweep."
Next year's Festival is due to take place on October 12-14, 2007.
