A Leopard gecko spent two days in the post, after it climbed unseen into an open envelope containing a belt the owner had sold on the auction site eBay.

The belt was duly posted and Phillipa Durrant received her purchase at the other end – with the little added extra! She said: "My daughter opened the envelope and came running upstairs saying: 'There's something alive in the package.'"

The gecko, called Sahara, was looking rather cold and limp after his 118-mile journey from Birmingham to Berkshire so Ms Durrant took him to the local vet, where he was given a clean bill of health.

The owner, Lisa Richardson, said no one had any idea the lizard had gone until they went to feed him later that night. She said there was "absolute pandemonium" once they realised he was missing. She was delighted to receive an email from Ms Durrant explaining what had happened and that he was alive and well.

Sahara is now being sent back to Birmingham by courier.

Yes, we know a gecko isn't a fish by the way, but we couldn't resist this story...
