The British and International Discus Keepers' Association (BIDKA) is hosting the second annual British Discus Show in November.

The event is due to take place at Haydock Park Racecourse in Merseyside and has a world-class line-up of speakers confirmed.

Discus breeder and author Andrew Soh is acting as senior judge for the show and will be talking on creating 'designer Discus'.

Breeder Jorg Stendker of Discus Zucht Stendker is also judging and is talking about the development of his breeding business, which now has over 400 pairs of fish and stocks of 80,000 young Discus spread over 1000 aquariums.

Retailer and wholesaler Ralf Battenburg from Dusseldorf specialises in both wild and domesticated Discus and is lecturing and acting as a judge.

Malaysian breeder Jeffrey Tan, who was president of the Discus Society of Malaysia from 2003 to 2007 is also judging and lecturing. Dr Peter Burgess is lecturing on Discus parasites. Mike O'Sullivan and Cuynet Birol are judging.

The event also includes the opportunity to purchase livestock and dry goods and will include stands from a number of aquatic companies and Discus specialists.

BIDKA's Paul Butler told Practical Fishkeeping: "We will be holding our show dinner on the Saturday evening at the Thistle Hotel, this is open to everyone but numbers will be strictly limited so book soon! We will have an auction on the evening where there will a variety of fun items to bid on.

"We are also hoping to have stands from other significant fish clubs including the British Cichlid Association and the Catfish Study Group."

The British Discus Show takes place on 28-29 November at Haydock Park Racecourse, Newton-le-Willows, Merseyside.
