Buyers and sellers of fish online will be devastated to hear that APC Overnight have temporarily suspended fish carriage services within the UK, writes Nathan Hill.

Details are scant at this time, but what is known from APC is quoted directly below from Tara Barnes, head of sales and marketing for APC overnight.

She states that: "Having liaised closely with Trading Standards who are working with the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra), we have taken the decision to suspend our transport of live fish pending the outcome of an urgent review. The welfare of our customers’ fish remains our priority."

As far as we know, APC were the only courier authorised to send live fish around the UK, though if others are known then please feel free to post them in the comments box below. After confirming that these couriers are licensed to transport live fish, we will make their names public.

As a reminder, Royal Mail will not transport live, adult fish within the UK. If intending to move any fish via courier, the legality must be verified by the sender, or he or she may be subject to a fine and further legal action.

Update: APC Overnight looking to resume livestock services.
