"I suppose the authors didn't really want to try and score behaviors for a group of 200 fish...
This is the first time I've seen the term “fish welfare” in a scientific hypothesis, though."

"Yes, aquarium fish are equally susceptible to fluke metacercariae. However, because fish are only the intermediate host, a fluke infection is usually not fatal."

"From the paper:
“Data from localities in the Central and Lower Amazon regions show predominance of juveniles, a common sign of overexploitation.”"

"The Tonle Sap is not a blackwater biotope. It's a large lake that is closer to a typical large Southeast Asian whitewater river. The water is a turbid brown, but is nowhere near what one would call blackwater (the parameters are off too, as the pH of the Tonle Sap is closer to neutral and quite different from the highly acidic blackwater habitats). Southeast Asian blackwater habitats are typically associated with peat swamps, which are usually located relatively near the coast.
Cambodia has very little blackwater habitats, since peat swamps are generally not found that far north in Southeast Asia. The only place where there might be blackwater in Cambodia is in the souhwestern region in the vicinity of the Cardamon and Elephant Ranges.
Oh, and BTW, neither Trigonostigma espei nor Trichopsis pumila are found in blackwater habitats. A more correct choice of fish would be Puntius hexazona or Rasbora kalochroma (neither of which are found in Cambodia). If Trichopsis are the preferred fish, then T. vittata is a more appropriate choice, since these have been found in blackwater habitats (although it is by no means a blackwater species)."
