oasis aquarium
Oasis Aquarium first started life as a fish import company way back in 1970. It opened its shop in 1985 and still visits suppliers around the world to source new fish. The shop told Practical Fishkeeping: "This year we have been to Sri Lanka, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia to source good quality fish. We hold our livestock in what we feel are some of the most sophisticated systems avaliable. The new Discus room has attracted visitors from throughout the north."
The staff at Oasis say that they have stacks of experience in the hobby: "We bought our first marine fish -a Domino damselfish for 1/10s - in 1966, so we can answer most questions now. We can design, supply, install and maintain virtually any aquarium with our largest tank this year measuring six metres long. We've even supplied an 'exploding' tank for a TV. advert for an insurance company (no fish were harmed in the making of the film) as well as lobsters, and eel tanks for another TV feature in Manchester's China town.
"Our tropical and marine room is air-conditioned, and the invertebrate systems all have chillers, so the recent heatwave presented no problems for either our livestock or customers and staff.
"Our selection of fish ranges from top quality community fish, through to African cichlids from the UK, Germany, Far East and of course Africa, with a good selection of South American L-number catfish. We're told our Discus room is one of the best in the country, all fish being quarantined for four weeks before being offered for sale. We feel we are well known for our huge range of marine fish and invertebrates with two hundred plus species always in stock. Our dry goods showroom is filled with equipment from all good companies, with many hard to find items and spares. The selection of tanks and cabinets is hard to beat with nearly 100 in stock."
