| Dorking Aquatics is a family-run business that was started in 1980 by Mark Harman. He told us: "The emphasis has always been on helping people look after their fish the right way, with plenty of advice and information, so they can avoid unnecessary loss of fish. Originally we had only 33 aquariums and four pond vats, and the shop had just two rooms. Over the years the business has grown, until in 1987 we finally moved to a bigger building at the rear of the shop. "Even with the extra space and parking, this too was very quickly filled with stock, and in 2000 we made a decision - we had to go bigger again. We expanded once more into the adjoining building. Finally we had a full-scale aquatic centre with over 2500 sq ft to fill. At this time we sold just freshwater (pondfish, fancy goldfish and tropicals), but we soon purchased a vast array of aquariums, cabinets and equipment to fill the extra space. "With marines always in mind, we finally started building our new marine section in the Spring of 2005. After 26 years our aquatic centre was completed. There's a walk down the steps to the new section, and you will see a lovely range of bowls, aquariums and cabinets (a choice of over 60). We also have a large selection of books, videos and DVDs. "In the next room you will find more coldwater fancy fish, and our new marine section. The marine livestock is housed in two separate systems, and is stocked with a huge selection of fish, invertebrates, critters and corals. All of our livestock is purchased from the Tropical Marine Centre. We do not import amy marines. "Finally, to fire your imagination, you will notice our show aquarums. The 'Nano Reef' is a small, but beautiful 8-gallon reef system, (we have had more pleasure from this aquarium than any other in the shop), an ideal and inexpensive way to start out with marines. We also have an Amazon tank with a 3-D background and live plants, a 45 litre tropical bowl, and a standard one metre reef display. "Finally, you will see our main tropical reef display, packed full of amazing corals, shrimps, polyps, starfish and colourful fish. We feel keeping any sort of fish should be an enjoyable experience, not somethiong which is hard work. Our staff are trained to advise you on the equipment that will suit you, and your fish, not the equipment which is easy to sell or most profitable." Red Sea tanks now in stock. |

| Directions | From the M25 use either junction 8 or 9 and follow signs to Dorking. Go through the town until the road forks at the one way system. Take the left fork. Keep on the right hand side and turn right after the zebra crossing, into Junction Road. At the bottom, turn right. Our driveway is approx 50 metres on the right hand side, after the Dorking Lighthouse shop. Coming along the A25 from the west, when you get to the traffic lights, you are in West Street. Go straight across the lights, and our driveway is approx 400 metres on the right. |
