| Porton Garden, Aquatic and Pet Centre, in Porton, just outside Salisbury, have been trading since 1988 and are currently having a large refit across the whole store. They stock everything from tropical fish to marine and pond fish. There is also a large, newly designed, pet department, stocking everything from hamsters to parrots. There is a Reptile Department which has trebled is size, with brand new vivariums stocking all kinds of reptiles. They have a massive new garden centre with stock ranging from garden plants, furniture, buildings, hot tubs and much more. The staff told Practical Fishkeeping: "We have been recognized by PFK readers for many years in the Top 40 aquatic stores and, with our new refit on the Aquatic Department, we aim to be bigger and better than before. We stock a wide range of aquatic dry goods with all the top names represented, Juwel aquariums, Aqua one, TMC, Interpet, Tetra, Ehime, Aqua Medic and Hagen to name but a few. Our staff are very knowledgeable in their preferred fields and offer a friendly professional service, they look forward to meeting the customers to assist them in their requirements. We have a purpose built fish room to allow us full control, one climate for the tropical and marine fish. The room is divided into different systems, which boast an extensive range of community tropical fish and also cichlid, predatory and brackish fish. We have 3 separate marine systems, each one dedicated to fish, inverts and corals. Our new indoor cold water system, located outside the fish house, has 18 tanks holding a good variety of cold water species. The pond fish are housed undercover, outside, with a good range of fish including gold fish, Japanese koi carp, sturgeon and much more. It is based next to our pond section where we have all the equipment you need for your pond from liners to filter systems, featuring all the top names, oase, oasis, laguna, cloverleaf, Blagdon and more. The new garden section has all the plants and accessories you could need for your garden or pond. The refurbished plant tunnel and outdoor plant area, located at the top of the garden centre, is full of plants including roses, climbers, bedding, trees, shrubs and more. With our new pond plant section you will be able to find a large selection of marginated plants, lilies, deepwater and floating plants, to give your garden and pond that finishing touch. Our separate Pet Department is divided into the small animal section for mice, hamsters, chinchillas, rat and other specialist species, there is an indoor rabbit and guinea pig section featuring many breeds, an indoor bird section, and an outside area for rabbits, ferrets, chipmunks, aviary birds and poultry. Our hand reared parrots have their own newly refitted section, as do our reptiles where our vivariums hold large selection of spiders, lizards, amphibians and snakes, together with all the accessories the livestock may require, plus all foods and treats. There is plenty of free parking and coffee facilities on site, together with a new gift shop called “My Favorite Things” stocking old fashioned sweets and gift for all ages. We are open seven days a week and are signposted from the A338. We are close to the A303 for easy access." |
