Derwent Koi and Tropicals

Derwent Koi and Tropicals is located in picturesque Derbyshire. The shop told Practical Fishkeeping: "Unlike many other 'garden centre' type establishments, most of our fish are selected personally to ensure the best quality. We have been in business almost 20 years, a testament to this philosophy. Our stock always include a good supply of Discus selected from many far Eastern and German breeders, along with a wide range of foods and accessories required to facilitate their maintenance.

"In addition we try to ensure a good selection of all species in particular the more unusual tropical varieties that have become harder to find in recent years. Dwarf snakeheads, mormyrids and L-numbers are just a few of a large variety of the different fish stocked. This is in addition to a wide ranging choice of the more standard community species.

"In the summer months we provide for the garden pond enthusiasts and beginners. Former Koi show enthusiasts ourselves, we examine our fish for any imperfections and possible problems, refusing to offer them for sale until they are fully fit. This even applies if the outside temperature is too cold. For those who want something unusual we are fully licensed by CEFAS to offer such fish.

"Plants, both tropical and coldwater, are imported from specialist growers and are available bunched, potted and on wood. In the summer we stock lilies, marginals, floating plants, bunched and potted oxygenators. We stock a wide range of foods for koi, coldwater, tropical, frozen and live. We have a good selection of pumps, filters, pond liners and other associated dry goods to ensure the well-being of your fish. We also have a range of tanks both complete and plain glass to cater for the most small to medium set ups (large tanks and custom made can be supplied on request.)"
