| The Aquatic and Pet Warehouse has been trading for 14 years, moving into its current premises in Swadlincote nearly four years ago when the building was first built. An independent family-run business, they aim to stock an extensive range of aquatic products, and also to have the largest selection of animal feeds in the area. They tell us they always have 50 tons of dog, cat, horse and small animal food in stock. What started as a hobby for Simon Smith, Managing Director of The Aquatic and Pet Warehouse at the age of eight has now turned out to be his livelihood. Simon told Practical Fishkeeping: "We stock tropical, coldwater and marine fish, all imported directly from 14 different countries around the world, which allows us to sell our fish at realistic prices. "Our policy is that the health of the livestock is paramount. We always advise customers on set ups, and which fish are compatible and we always encourage customers to build their livestock up slowly. We also advise on floating, introducing and acclimatising fish whether it be into a pond or an aquarium. "Some shops will sell as many fish as you ask for in fives or tens or more but of course we know that any filter system takes time to mature and again customers are advised accordingly. We offer a free water-testing service to customers who are experiencing problems with their aquarium. "On the marine side of the hobby we also sell RO. water and salted RO. Water mixed to temperature/salinity making water changes a little easier for the customer. There are continuous offers throughout the store including many buy one get one free. We want it to be like an Aladdin's cave with so much to choose from." |
