Reefworks

Reefworks says it was the first and is still the only dedicated sustainable coral farm in the UK: "With strong conservational interests Reefworks was launched in 2003 with the aim to provide hobbyists with a reliable source of healthy captive bred corals that could be delivered to your door via mail order. Along with the extensive corals available they also culture and sell live copepods, zooplankton, phytoplankton and breed some species of marine fish. Over the years Reefworks has grown from strength to strength and now sustainably farm over 140 different species of coral. Unlike other UK coral 'farming' companies, Reefworks does not buy in larger wild coral colonies and chop them up to sell and then buy in more wild colonies, rather all the corals sold at Reefworks are grown here in the UK. With their Healthy Delivery Guarantee you can be assured that every coral you buy has been grown in the most eco-friendly manner and has had no negative impact on natural coral reefs.

"Along with the benefit of buying corals that have not been removed from the wild, Reefworks farmed corals are also well adapted to life in aquaria as some of them have been in captivity for over 10 years and so there are less problems adapting them to aquarium life - the hard work has already been done for you!

"Clayton Smith the owner of Reefworks, is a marine biologist and has been involved in the aquarium industry and keeping marine aquariums for over 20 years. Also the writer of many published articles Clayton is happy to provide free and impartial advice to all those that are striving to maintain beautiful aquariums.

"The Reefworks website contains many species of SPS, LPS and soft corals ranging from rare and delicate species to those that are more suited for beginner reefkeepers. The website has extensive help and advice on the corals you can purchase as well as lots of information on maintaining healthy aquaria.

"Reefworks has developed what they believe to be the best packaging system for their mail order corals which ensures that any corals purchased via mail order arrive in the peak of health.

"Reefworks is predominantly a mail order company but collection of livestock is possible by appointment."
