woodford aquatics
East London-based Woodford Aquatics opened 25 years ago and has been run by the current owner, Colin Agness, for the last 9 years. Colin told Practical Fishkeeping: "After a lot of hard work, involving family and friends I have turned the business around and many of my regular customers are people I served himself when he was a Saturday boy. Lots of my customers visit regularly, happy because they can get whatever they need, whether it is information or supplies, but also because they just enjoy seeing 'whats new'. We have a small staff of friendly helpful people and we pride ourselves on offering the right service and help."
This year the staff completely refurbished the shop, replacing 100 tropical tanks, 25 coldwater tanks and a number of pond vats. The shop also features a unique frontage. The shop told us: "The front of the shop has been completely re-painted by a young local artist who has painted a detailed underwater scene upside down! Many local people have therefore come into the shop due to their curiosity about the shop front decoration and the heading 'We do fsih dfiferetrnly'".
"Most popular varieties of fish are stocked and also a large number of oddball fish for both small tanks and the large fish keeper. Regular deals are also given on the popular varieties. In the colder months, we have two plant deliveries and three to four tropical fish deliveries a week. In the summer, additionally, pond plants, Koi and pond fish are delivered weekly. Due to the size of the shop, we're unable to stock everything that we would like, but always carry the most popular products and tried and tested items which are often tested by customers for them. We carry a wide range of pond equipment, from liners to pumps and filters to UV systems and we provide an installation service.
"We carry an extensive range of pellet and flake food, frozen and live foods and can get any special customer requirements within a couple of days. We also stock Juwel and Den Marketing tanks and an extensive range of Hagen tanks - we believe we are one of the biggest stockists of Hagen products within London.
"Additionally we can supply made to measure tanks and cabinets, in any size from 12 inches to 14 feet. An installation and maintenance service is also provided, for both household and business requirements. We will do their best to accommodate any customer request within reason!"
