Nitrite detoxification calculator
Nitrite toxicity in fish can be inhibited by the addition of chloride ions to the water, usually added in the form of sodium chloride (NaCl). Chloride ions compete with nitrite ions for uptake across the gill membrane.This program calculates the level of NaCl required to raise chloride levels in the system to that at which the nitrite present can be detoxified, and takes into account the background level of chloride already present in the system.
