Blobfish cafe to open in London

A pop-up cafe to open in Summer 2016 plans to put deep-sea blobfish on display in an aquarium.

The Blobfish was voted 'world's ugliest animal' in a poll back in 2013. Since then it has been a bit of an Internet sensation. But due to its deep water habitat, few people have actually seen a live one.

Blobfish live anywhere from 600 to 1,200m below the surface off Australia and Tasmania.

The owners of the cafe, which is to be located in east London, have spent 18 months in discussion with marine biologists on how to transport the fish and how to design a tank that replicates their natural habitat.

The cafe plans to house three Blobfish, which are to be named named Barry, Lorcan and Lady Swift.
