This is a show where the catfish usually get the most points, a run that came to an end at the 2015 event — only to return this year, with awards for both Best in Show and Best Exhibit being taken by catfish.

The Best in Show was a Long-whiskered catfish, Duopalatinus peruanus, from Peru, owned by Gareth Savage of Castleford AS. It won with 87 points.

The Best Exhibit (from the Pairs and Breeders Classes) also went to catfishes. These were Bunocephalus larai banjo catfishes from Brazil, with 86.33 points.

Both of this year's winning catfish are peaceful, even shy, fish. Their owners say the catfish are finicky eaters — but that they are their favourite pets.
