Default New tank cycle with old media

Hi, Im about to do a fishless cycle on a 180l tank with a new tetratec ex1200. I do have some media in one of the internals on my small tank to put in my new filter, although not much as the old filter is tiny compared to my new one . Should I still add ammonia and will it still take 4-6 weeks for the tank to be ready for my fish to move into his new home? And is it best to put plants in once the tank is cycled or while it is cycling?

Thanks

If the filter has been coping with the fish waste then adding the media to the new filter and the fish to the new tank now should be fine. I have recently upgraded myself and did the same without any problems, I just monitored the water for a couple of weeks.
