moved from film to Nikon D40 - finally after 20 years .....

have low-key books from local library - "starting digital" - "buying a camera" etc
but need to go a bit further especially on "landscapes"
but not "Photoshop" - [over my head] - nor "macro" [ lens too expensive]

Paula ...ordered the "Understanding Exposure" you suggested from Amazon
+ got a Nikon 55-200mm AF-S VR - mint £130 c/w Hoya from AVForums "classified"

cannot afford a Nikon SB400 flash....:(
but did find my tripod - a 30year old Velbon with centre post - guess that'll be ok?

thanks

I'm finding is a fun challenge to photograph fish, any tips would be welcomed.
I am using a Canon EOS 400D with a lens which is very new to me - 50mm fixed focal length, F1.8.. It's all a bit baffling to me, having only had a huge zoom until this point.
I'm yet to use my external flash because it chows on batteries much faster than I can buy them.

Some days it is very difficult to keep a minnow's attention..

At the minute my minnows are dancing and flaring their fins, I'd love to try and capture what they're doing, but I'm not having much luck. :(

Hello :)

I am totally new to fishkeeping, and thought i would try my hand at photographiong fish. can't be that hard, right? well, I only have your standard run-of-the-mill digital camera, dont even ask if it has DSLR or whatever, coz i dont know :) anyway, i tried taking shots of my neons, observe the results:

Hmmm.... have got advice that i need more lgiht - I didnt use the flash for fear of startling the life out of the fish :P

anyways, am quite keen to get some good shots, any advice WITHOUT SPENDING MUCH MONEY. I am totally skint after buying a new tank :P

Well, I've been promising this for months, especially to those in the Fish-Box-64 club, and I've finally got my new camera to do so (£10 off ebay, good deal much?)

Anyway, just a few shots of some of my fish whilst I learn to play around with the settings and what not.
I won't be posting a full tank shot til I can get it just right.

Enjoy.

Two Cories & Mac.

Manny hiding from the camera.

Why yes I am an Otto, who's askin'?

Ahh I've been spotted!

Edit: The pictures will fix themselves in time, I've just edited them on Photobucket, so it might take a bit for them to catch up.
