Eheim Aqualife nano aquarium

German filter and equipment manufacturer Eheim launched a new nano aquarium at Interzoo - the Aqualife.
Three models of the glass cube aquarium were on display at 16, 24 and 35 litre volumes.
All three include an internal power filter and 7 watt LEd light, only the light and filter run from just one power source.
The light can be moved along runners spanning across the top of the tank and can even be removed with the power source still on.

The internal filter delivers 200lph for four watts and contains sponge, Ehfisubstrat Pro and can contain Phosphateout, a phosphate remover.
Furthermore the top of the filter can be accessed for direct addition of liquids into the filter.
A podium stand was also on display.

"I must agree with the first comment above the Editorial Comment.
The idea of a nano aquarium is to be simple yet aesthetic.
The fact that a 16litre aquarium is only that while empty, only makes the internal filter that much more of a poor design idea.
A lot of people don't realize that once you add substrate, hardscape, plants, and a small heater, the 16liter volume is reduced, along with the swimming area.
The light is okay, as far as I can tell, but I'm not sure on the wattage (is it sufficient to grow plants, or do you need to McGyver it?)."

"I also agree with George Farmer's comments on the subject of the filter. However, the lighting looks more aestheticaly pleasing than most nano lamps. Also it looks like it is fully adjustable, which could be useful. I wonder if Eheim plan to sell the lighting seperately."

"Is it me or are Eheim really behind the drag curve with the nano scene?
Posted by: George FarmerFirst their 'external' nano filter which has an ugly internal unit spoiling the aquascape.
Now a nano with another big internal filter doing the same job at spoiling the otherwise very nice view.
I'm not keen on the filter and light sharing a power supply either - or they independently switchable? I like to turn my filter off but keep the light on when I'm maintaining my aquariums.
Disappointing to be honest."
